Being a senior manager can be a lonely place. Everyone expects you to have the answer but who can you discuss your doubts and fears with? Where can you explore your thinking and find the answers from your own personal experience? Coaching can provide a safe and confidential space to take time out of the hurly burly for an hour to think in a unique way. A coach comes to the session 100% believing that their coachee has all the skills and experience to solve their issues and challenges. By asking the right questions in a structured fashion, there is no business issue that cannot be solved.

Furthermore, all managers should be taught how to coach. Rather than simply telling people what to do, get them to think things out for themselves in a considered manner. This enables people to grow and become more independent. Too many people ask "How" before thinking things out for themselves. Too many managers fear that leaving people to work things out will result in a poor outcome. Free yourself up by helping others work things out for themselves.
